The beauty of this approach is that the children don’t just laugh—they lead. Take, for example, one of our Mystery Fairy Tale Investigators sessions. The children had been tasked with solving a fairy tale crime, and we set the scene as police officers on the case. As the investigation unfolded, one child confidently stepped into the role of “police boss,” complete with a booming voice and hilariously exaggerated commands. Instead of steering the session back to the original plan, the teacher ran with it, embracing this delightful twist. The class erupted into laughter as their self-appointed leader barked orders, made up wild theories, and kept everyone—including the teacher—on their toes. By the end, the whole room was in stitches, and the children left buzzing with confidence and joy.
In another one of our Thursday sessions, the children were tackling the case of the house thief (aka Goldilocks). As the detectives pieced together clues, one child triumphantly announced, “There’s one thing you’ve forgotten—the smelly poo left behind in the toilet!” Toilet humour, as any parent or teacher knows, is a surefire hit, and this moment was no exception. The entire class burst out laughing, their imaginations fuelled by this unexpected twist. It’s moments like these that showcase the unique, uninhibited creativity that children bring to Zozimus sessions when they feel safe and encouraged to let their ideas flow.

Take, for example, our puppet shows. In one memorable session, inspired by the imaginative world of The Witches, the children used googly-eyed puppets to bring their characters to life. For some of our quieter participants, the puppet stage provided a safe space to project their voices and try out new ideas. By the end of the session, even the shyest children were fully engaged, their laughter filling the room as their puppets performed daring feats and hilarious antics. Moments like these remind us that drama isn’t just about learning to act—it’s about discovering who you are and what you’re capable of.
